What is Hypnotherapy & NLP?

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy uses a natural, focused state of relaxed awareness to communicate directly with the unconscious mind. You remain fully aware and in control throughout every session — it is not sleep, and you cannot be made to do or say anything against your will.

In this relaxed state, the critical faculty — the part of the mind that filters and resists new information — becomes less active. This allows the unconscious mind to receive new suggestions, release stored emotional patterns, and shift deeply held beliefs and physical responses including pain.

Hypnotherapy has been used clinically for pain management, anxiety reduction, habit change, sleep improvement, emotional wellbeing and performance enhancement. It was endorsed by the British Medical Society in 1955 and the American Medical Association in 1958.

NLP

NLP examines the relationship between how we think (neuro), how we communicate (linguistic) and the behavioural and emotional patterns that result (programming). It works by identifying and changing the mental coding that drives unwanted responses — including fear, self-doubt, chronic tension and habitual pain responses.

Where hypnotherapy creates the conditions for deep unconscious change, NLP provides specific tools for restructuring thought patterns, dissolving limiting beliefs, realigning values and reprogramming behavioural loops. Used alongside hypnotherapy, NLP addresses both the depth and the structure of change.

NLP and hypnotherapy are also highly effective in supporting the body's relationship with pain and physical sensation — including chronic pain, tension held in the fascia, and the emotional components of physical discomfort.

How many sessions do I need?

Hypnotherapy does not require months of weekly appointments to produce meaningful results. Most goals can be addressed within one to five sessions, with one session per week allowing time for integration and change to consolidate between appointments.

Some goals — such as quitting smoking, improving sleep, breaking a specific habit or addressing acute pain — can be achieved in a single focused session. More comprehensive work, such as peak mental performance preparation for fighters or end-of-life peace for older clients, is delivered through a structured five-session programme.

Who I work with

Mental Performance

Hypnotherapy for Peak Mental Performance

Mental performance is the difference between a fighter who executes their game plan and one who freezes under pressure. Hypnotherapy and NLP work directly with the unconscious mind — where fear, self-doubt, pain tolerance and emotional patterns actually live. A structured 5-session programme is available for fighters preparing for competition.
